What is Cheek Fillers?

cheek fillers before and after

Cheek fillers are hyaluronic acid- or calcium based fillers that are used to restore or enhance the cheeks and cheekbone.

Lifting the face can help plump the face and give it a more lifted appearance. The appearance of a sagging face and age will result if there is a loss of volume around this area.

In most cases, a lighter & softer filler is preferred for medial cheek fillers because the skin is thinner and there is less tissue there than in the mid cheek.

When the filler is injected into the cheek, it can restore volume at sunken area to create a symmetrical jawbone.

The popular and safest hyaluronic acid fillers are Juvederm, Revanesse and Restylane. Cheek fillers can last 6–12 months, giving you a more youthful and proportional look.

What are the different types of Cheek Fillers?

Cheek fillers can be injected with hyaluronic acid fillers (temporary fillers) or polycaprolactone fillers (semi permanent fillers).

  • Temporary fillers (Juvederm Voluma) can last 6 – 12 months and can be dissolved.
  • Semi Permanent Fillers (Ellanse) can last up 1 – 2 years, but cannot be dissolved.

At Bio Aesthetic Laser Clinic, we prefer to use hyaluronic acid fillers for cheek fillers.

Benefits of Cheek Fillers

Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of our skin and it can be injected without causing adverse responses in the majority of people. HA also takes into account the following factors:

  • Treatment that can be reversed (Able to reverse treatment)
  • Fine lines and wrinkles are smoothed (HA delivers moisture to skin)
  • Efficiency and safety (This product can be applied to any portion of the face.)
  • Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Approved (We only use FDA approved HA fillers)

The sole drawback of HA fillers is that they can only be used for a maximum of 18 months. When compared to semi-permanent fillers, which can last up to four years, patients must return for additional upkeep.

Another factor to consider is that the definition of beauty may differ between doctors and patients. Semi-permanent filler cannot be reversed if the patient does not like the treatment results.

What are the Pre-Treatment instructions?

1 week before – avoid supplements and pain killer medicine consumption

2 days before – avoid any stimulation (such as waxing, hair removal applications, or anti-aging product applications) on the cheeks.

What are the Post-Treatment instructions?

After the filler treatment, try to avoid the following:

  • excessive exercise
  • smoking
  • consuming alcohol

While these may have no effect on the outcome of your results, they do raise the chance of bruising and swelling in the afflicted area, resulting in a longer recovery period.

Also, for the next 2 weeks, avoid facial massage as the cheek filler hasn’t yet been fixed to its position.

Where else can face fillers be injected?

Other than injecting fillers in the lips, other popular areas such as forehead fillers, chin filler, lip fillers and nose fillers are common.
