Calf Reduction Complete Price & Treatment Guide
What is Calf Reduction?
Calf size can be reduced through either surgery or Botox. Find out difference and price guide for calf reduction.
Calf reduction is increasingly popular in Singapore for cosmetic reasons. Whether you are a woman seeking slender legs or a man who thinks your calf is too big, Botox (Botulinum Toxin) can be injected into the calf area to reduce its size.
Although most people are familiar with Botox for wrinkles and jaw reduction, few are aware that Botox is indeed an excellent and efficient non-surgical calf slimming treatment.
The best benefit of Botox Calf Reduction is that there is no need to undergo surgery or risk complications.
How does Calf Reduction Botox work?
When botox is injected into the gastrocnemius muscle of the calf, the botulinum toxin will weaken and contract the muscles, reducing their overall size.
Typically, for Asian women, the Botox injection is focused on the medial (inner) side of the gastrocnemius muscle, as it is typically bulkier. Due to the calf’s larger size compared to the jaw, a greater amount of Botox will be needed.
Approximately 50 to 150 units of Botox are needed for each calf, depending on the individual’s assessment. The popular Botulinum Toxin brands, such as Dysport & Botox are used to reduce calf size.
Botox injections are a more popular method as they are less invasive than surgical alternatives such as liposuction or nerve ablation.
Do note that Botox is a temporary solution and requires touch-ups every few months.
How many units of Botox are required for Calf reduction?
The number of units is dependent on the brand of botulinum toxin used:
Botox Calf Reduction: 50 to 100 units of Botox
Dysport Calf Reduction: 125 to 250 units of Dysport
Before the procedure, our experienced doctors will assess your calf muscles and advise you on the number of units required.
We often ask Dysport vs Botox when it comes to calf reduction; it depends on doctors; however, due to spreadability, Dysport is generally preferred for larger muscles.
What are the steps to reduce calf?
The procedure will start with applying numbing cream to ensure a comfortable experience.
The doctor will mark out the injection spots by locating the gastrocnemius muscles.
Botox or Dysport would be gently injected in a series of several tiny injections uniformly around the gastrocnemius muscle.
The aftercare guide will be explained, and a follow-up session will be arranged to ensure a successful procedure.
How many sessions of calf reduction is required?
Botox calf reduction typically requires 2 sessions:
1st session: Injection of Botox to reduce calf muscle
2nd session: Follow-up session to ensure both calves are balanced and check whether touch-ups are required.
Is calf reduction Botox permanent?
Botox calf reduction is not a permanent solution. Maintenance procedures are required every 4 to 6 months to ensure continued results.
The only permanent solution is surgery; however, often the costs are expensive, and there are always risks of complications & recovery issues.
What is the downtime for calf reduction?
The procedure has minimal to no downtime. Botox is an FDA approved medical procedure and has excellent safety track records.
Normal activities, such as walking, can be resumed immediately. However, we recommend that patients wait 24 to 48 hours before any strenuous activities.
What are the pre-treatment instructions?
There are no pre-treatment or dietary instructions. You can just book an appointment or send in your picture of the calf for us to assess.
How long are the results for calf reduction?
Typically, for all Botox injections, it takes approximately 2–4 weeks to see the full results. Results for reducing calf are not instant; it takes time for the botulinum toxin to absorb into the muscles for the muscle to shrink.
Within the period, if you have any queries, feel free to contact our experienced aestheticians and doctors.
Am I suitable for Botox calf reductions?
The procedure is recommended for those who are seeking symmetrical or slimmer calves.
Typical reasons for patients who undergo calf reduction procedures are: to reduce calf muscle, those who are unhappy with the contours of their lower legs; and those with congenitally bulky or tubular legs.
What other non-surgical calf reduction treatment is available?
Fat Freeze: A non-surgical body-contouring treatment (cryolipolysis) that freezes small pockets of stubborn fat and can burn up to 25% of fat. Fat cells are killed while frozen without harming the underlying tissue, and your body flushes them out during the next four to six months.
While there is no downtime, results do not appear right away: it will take a few weeks for the body to begin metabolizing the dead fat cells. This method is only advisable for patients with a larger amount of fat in the calf region.
What are the side effects of calf reduction with Botox?
When it comes to injectable procedures, there are always certain risks involved. As different people react differently to Botox, in general, most patients do not experience any side effects.
Common Botox side effect such as bleeding around the injection sites, headaches, flu-like symptoms, and local pain may occur after the treatment. Make sure to call your licensed medical practitioner for advice.
